  • Bundled Services Available
  • No start up fee
  • Most economical plan for both sending and receiving faxes in our survey
  • 5.9 cents per page over 500 pages
  • 500 page plan can be used for both inbound and outbound faxes
  • Multiple Users available

Cons

  • At the time of our most recent review, there were no notable cons

Conclusion

RingCentral's product is very good, and RingCentral is continuously working to improve their customer service. Their customer service is an overseas call center in the Philippines, and although there is a slight language barrier, they have recently been helpful in answering our questions. Unlike other internet fax services that set an allotted number for incoming and outgoing pages, RingCentral combines the two to give their users more flexibility in how they spend their minutes. If you send and receive more than 500 pages per month, RingCentral has two higher volume plans: a 1000 page per month plan and a 2500 page per month plan.

Pros

  • 30 day free trial
  • Knowledgeable customer service
  • Low monthly price for number of pages included
  • Low overage rates
  • Combined pages
  • Discount for annual contracts

Cons

  • Only one user can send faxes
  • Toll free numbers aren't available
  • Previewing your faxes doesn't work well

Conclusion

If you need a local fax number, Nextiva's internet fax service is a good product at a great value. We initially encountered many problems signing up for their service. However, after reporting the sign up errors, Nextiva corrected the problems. At $9.95 per month for 500 fax pages, Nextiva gives you a lot for your money. You can save even more if you pre-pay for a year: your effective rate would be $6.95 per month. Nextiva's faxing interface is relatively straightforward to use, and we had no problems sending and receiving faxes. Nextiva's Customer Service helped solve our issue when the password we were given to login to our account didn't work. Nextiva has a 30 day free trial to test out their internet fax service.

Pros

  • 1000 pages per month
  • Low overage rates
  • Easy-to-use interface
  • MetroFax charges per page NOT per minute (no matter how long the page takes to transmit)

Cons

  • $9.95 start up fee
  • Your 1 free month is the second month, which means no free trial
  • $2 extra per user email

Conclusion

This is an excellent program for higher volume users. You get 1000 combined pages for $12.95 per month. Their interface is also really easy to use. However, there is a start up fee, no free trial and only one email address can be set as a recipient for incoming faxes. It's also important to note that local numbers aren't available for Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Carolina, but MetroFax gives these locations a toll free number at no additional charge.

Plan Reviewed: Individual and Small Business Plan

Pros

  • No start up fee
  • 30 day free trial
  • The incoming and outgoing page allowance is combined, which makes it less likely for you to incur overage fees
  • $0.08 per minute overage charges
  • Customer service is knowledgeable

Cons

  • Hidden Fees: RapidFAX charges for storing faxes online for more than 30 days, which is the default setting in their online interface
  • Only 2 users can receive faxes
  • Customer service number is hard to find

Conclusion

RapidFAX is a good option for people who have only a very small number of people who will need to receive faxes directly. Their pricing is reasonable and their service is comprehensive. They offer a 30 day free trial with 300 total pages. The primary potential drawback is the fact that you can only have the faxes sent to two email addresses. We also found it difficult to get a hold of their customer service through email, but they were responsive and helpful through the phone (note: The only place you can find their customer service number is on their "help" page).

The feedback we have received from RapidFax users has been very negative. Many users have complained about lost faxes as well as being billed after canceling. Complete RapidFAX review

Pros

  • 30 day free trial
  • Unlimited fax storage
  • Fax numbers in 3,500 cities and 46 countries
  • Discount for annual contracts

Cons

  • High monthly price ($16.95) for number of pages included
  • High overage rates
  • Pages in plan aren't combined; 130 pages earmarked for incoming and 30 pages for outgoing

Conclusion

eFax has a good internet fax service and the most subscribers of any online fax service, but it isn't best suited for a toll free number plan. At $16.95 per month for 130 incoming pages and 30 outgoing pages, eFax's monthly fee is very high compared to the other internet fax providers we've reviewed. With eFax's interface, sending and receiving faxes is fairly easy. eFax offers 24/7 customer support, and our recent experiences with their customer service have been good. They also offer a 30 day free trial to adequately test out their service. Complete eFax Review

  • Corporate packages and premium upgrades

Cons

  • Page in plan aren't combined; 300 pages earmarked for incoming and 100 pages for outgoing
  • Only 30 U.S. cities available for local numbers

Conclusion

SRFax is a good option for people who need a toll-free fax number. Local numbers are available, but are limited to 30 U.S. cities and 24 Canadian cities. The Lite plan is competitively priced at $9.95/month with no start up fee. SRFax offers a 30-day free trial, which includes unlimited incoming faxes and up to 20 outgoing faxes per day. A drawback to their plan is that the pages aren't combined. However, they have some features that set them apart, such as international faxing capabilities and excellent customer service. Cons

  • No free trial period
  • $5.00 start up fee

Conclusion

This plan is competitively-priced. There is a start up fee and no free trial, which is outside of our market standard, but their monthly fee is a few bucks less than our market standard for the same number of minutes.

Faxage's customer service is excellent, and their fax plan allows for an unlimited number of email addresses to receive the faxes. Overall, Faxage is a sound faxing option. Complete FaxAge Review

Pros

  • Low monthly fee
  • Pages are combined, so you are less likely to incur overage charges
  • Lower than average overage rates
  • Customer service is knowledgeable

Cons

  • Only 2 users can receive faxes

Conclusion

SmartFax's plan is a good value. There is no activation fee, and for $6.95/month, you get 250 combined pages, lower than average overage rates and the option of a toll free number for no additional cost. SmartFax offers a 30-day free trial, which includes 250 combined minutes. Our experience with their customer support has been mixed. Pre-sales support consists of an automated email response, but if you are a trial user or paying customer, you will have access to their customer support phone number. Phone support was helpful and wait times were short. Complete SmartFax Review

  • Upgraded and Corporate packages available
  • International sending capabilities

Cons

  • $10.00 start up fee
  • 30 day free trial only includes 100 inbound pages and three 10-page outbound faxes
  • Customer service number is hard to find

Conclusion

MaxEmail's Plus Plan has some pros that set them apart, but it isn't best suited for a toll free number plan. Their monthly fee is fair at $9.95, but their $10.00 start up fee is outside our "market standard." Their plan includes 250 inbound pages (no matter how long the page takes to transmit) and 100 outbound pages (again, no matter how long it takes to transmit). However, if you go over your allotted amount, MaxEmail charges you $0.05 for each inbound fax (no matter how long it took to transmit) and the lesser of $0.05 per 30 seconds for each outbound fax or $.10 per page. Their 30-day free trial includes 100 inbound pages and three 10-page outbound faxes. A feature fairly unique to MaxEmail is that unused pages roll-over with the Lite and Plus plan, and they are one of the few internet fax services to boast a high number of users. They also offer international sending capabilities for an additional cost. Complete MaxEmail Review

Cons

  • Hidden Fees: They charge for storing faxes online for more than 30 days, which is the default setting in their online interface
  • Overage fees are higher than average

Conclusion

Fax.com's monthly service is priced right at our market standard, but their per page overage charge is above what other vendor's are charging. Our testing also found their customer support to be unreliable. Recently, Fax.com acquired OneFax, FaxMicro and 101Fax and appears to be managing all these systems through Fax.com's technology. Pros

  • Premier Global offers a wide variety of digital phone services, so if you're looking for more than just digital fax you might be able to benefit from a service bundle

Cons

  • $20.00 start up fee
  • Confusing pricing system
  • Overage fees are well above average
  • No free trial
  • 50 pages per month is roughly 16% of what we consider market standard
  • Their website is generally not very informative
  • Their Customer Service is very difficult to reach

Conclusion

There are other carriers that offer the same bundle of services for less money. Fax2Mail's offering is well outside our "market standard" with a monthly fee of $11.90, a $20 start up fee and only 50 included combined fax pages. Also, the hidden fees associated with the service, i.e. $3.95 per added user and $0.004 for every re-sent fax, make the service less attractive than other internet fax options. Cons

  • $8.95 Start Up Fee
  • Hidden Fees: Send2Fax charges for storing faxes online for more than 30 days. which is the default setting in their online interface
  • Only 2 users can receive faxes
  • Overage fees exceed what we consider market standard
  • Customer service phone number is hard to find

Conclusion

Send2Fax gives you half the combined pages of the market standard at a slightly cheaper price. Send2Fax combines incoming and outgoing pages, but the total pages you get for $8.95 (150 pages) is half market standard. The faxing interface is simple and easy to use, and our faxes were sent and received quickly. For questions, you are compelled to use the ticket system when you are in the interface. The phone support number is difficult to locate on the website and forces you to leave the faxing interface to find it. (It is located here: http://www.send2fax.com/about.jsp). But, we found phone support to be quick, helpful and knowledgeable. Send2Fax offers a 30 day trial to test out their faxing service.

Conclusion

AirComUSA's Virtual Fax plan is expensive considering you pay $8.95 per month, a $10 setup fee, and don't receive any free incoming or outgoing fax minutes. You're also charged $12 upfront, but this amount goes to paying for your faxes. With AirComUSA, you must send and receive faxes from your email, but it is a very straightforward and simple process. Cons

  • No free trial
  • Limited Customer Service hours
  • Pricing is above what we consider market standard

Conclusion

This company is marketing its service as a means to positively affect the environment. Although we agree with and support this conclusion, their service is no more environmentally friendly than other carriers', as far as we can tell. Nonetheless, their overage fees are very low and if you foresee regular overage charges, this benefit might outweigh their above-market monthly fees. GreenFax unfortunately does not have a free trial to test their service. Another unusual feature that may be a pro or a con depending on your situation is the fact that they bill quarterly.

This is an old version of what is now RingCentral. The good side is that you get RingCentral's 24/7 Customer Service and you get the old pricing, which is lower than RingCentral. The bad side is that this system was replaced in order to improve the interface and technology. The quality of the product is commensurate with the reduced cost. eXtremeFax offers a 7 day free trial that includes 30 combined pages. This is a good option for a value-conscious customer. Pros

  • Bundled fax service with voicemail and other services
  • Online fax storage for 1 year
  • Discount for annual contracts

Cons

  • High monthly price ($19.95) for number of pages included
  • High overage rates
  • Chat customer service wasn't helpful
  • $10.00 start up fee
  • No outgoing pages in plan
  • No free trial

Conclusion

jConnect is suited for people who want to use an internet fax service that comes with extra features like voicemail and email-by-phone®. jConnect doesn't have any hidden fees, but their $19.95 monthly fee for 170 incoming pages and 0 outgoing pages is very high compared to the other internet fax providers we've reviewed. We've found jConnect's phone customer service to be knowledgeable and responsive but their chat customer service to be very poor. jConnect doesn't currently offer a free trial.

Pros

  • Low monthly fee
  • 24/7 Customer Service

Cons

  • $20.00 start up fee
  • Only 250 included pages
  • Expensive overage rates
  • No online fax storage
  • Free trial is one fax

Conclusion

At SaveOnFaxes customer service is given a priority, which is in contrast to their higher than average prices. Customer service is available 24/7 and was found to be very helpful. In terms of cost, SaveOnFaxes offers one of the lowest monthly subscription fees. However, the initial start up fee as well as the cost to send or receive a fax once you have surpassed your monthly allotment of 250 are both well above our market standard. Also, their free trial consists of one fax, so it's hard to get a feel for the service. Complete SaveOnFaxes Review

Plan Reviewed: Pay Per Fax

Pros

  • No start up fee
  • No monthly fee (pay-as-you-go)

Cons

  • No permanent fax number
  • Fax numbers are only available for free for 30 minutes
  • Limited Customer Service
  • Only 1 user
  • Expensive fax pages
  • No free trial

Conclusion

If you are a casual fax user who needs a pay-as-you-go internet fax service, instead of a permanent fax number to use for your business, then PayPerFax may be the right option for you. PayPerFax is unique in that they don't charge a monthly fee; you only pay for the faxes you send or receive. The first page is $0.75, and each additional page is $0.40. Your fax number is assigned from PayPerFax's inventory of toll-free numbers and is available to use for 30 minutes. If you need additional time, however, the rate is $0.50 for each additional 30-minute block of time. This might not be ideal if you are a small business that needs a permanent fax number to advertise on business cards, stationary, etc. Also, if you aren't exactly sure when someone will be sending you a fax, this arrangement can be potentially inconvenient and expensive. Despite their very helpful step-by-step tutorial and demonstration located on several pages throughout the website, phone and email customer support were both very difficult to reach. Pros

  • No start up fee
  • 365 days of online storage

Cons

  • Limited customer service
  • Only 125 incoming and 125 outgoing pages are included
  • Only 5 users included in plan
  • Limited local numbers

Conclusion

This plan is competitively priced. However, FaxSer has limited Customer Service hours, and their combined number of incoming and outgoing pages is about 50 less than our market standard. It's also important to note that you can only receive a local fax number in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. Complete FaxSer Review

Pros

  • No start up fee
  • Customer Service available 24/5
  • Premium upgrades and corporate packages available

Cons

  • No Free Trial
  • Additional fees for online storage
  • Only 200 pages included in plan (67% of market standard)
  • Only 1 user in plan
  • Limited local area codes (only 32 U.S. states are represented)

Conclusion

If you are looking for an international toll-free number, then Venali's service is a good fit. However, if you are looking for a basic internet fax service, we recommend choosing a service provider who offers more bells and whistles for the $9.99 monthly fee. Only 200 pages are included in the plan, and they are not combined which restricts your usage. Also, you have to pay extra for valuable online storage and a toll free number. That combined with Venali's limited availability of local area codes (only 32 states are represented) and no free trial makes the plan unattractive for a basic internet fax user. Pros

  • Very low monthly fee
  • Low overage rates
  • Unlimited incoming pages
  • Low international rates
  • 24/7 Customer Service

Cons

  • $10 starting balance
  • Must download software to send faxes
  • Not compatible with Macs

Conclusion

OneSuite's includes unlimited incoming faxes and the ability to send outgoing faxes for an ultra-low monthly price. If you only want to receive incoming pages, they have another plan you can sign up for that only costs $1 per month. Toll-free numbers cost an extra $2.95/month and faxing to toll free numbers costs 2.5c per minute. Additional drawbacks included paying a $10 starting balance and having to download software to send faxes.

UnityFax Pros

  • Great customer support
  • Unlimited incoming pages
  • Low overage rate for additional outgoing pages

UnityFax Cons

  • $1.99 start up fee
  • No free trial
  • Interface is not user-friendly

UnityFax Conclusion

UnityFax has a few drawbacks, but their product and customer support are solid and they continue to make improvements. Their pricing is right in line with our "market standard" and they include unlimited incoming pages and 250 outgoing pages. However, they charge an activation fee and do not have a true free trial, which is outside our "market standard". UnityFax continues to improve its service, and they recently added an email-to-fax function and expanded their online storage to include an archive of sent faxes, as well as outgoing. Their online interface is a little hard to navigate. Sending/Receiving faxes requires two different interfaces: UnityFax.com for incoming faxes and FaxORama.com for outgoing faxes. However, if you prefer to fax from your email program, then this shouldn't be a problem. Complete UnityFax Review
