Faxing Plan Reviewed: eFax Plus

Pros

  • Save 16.6% when you prepay yearly, but discount not available with free trial
  • Unlimited online fax storage
  • 24/7 phone customer support

Cons

  • Pages in plan aren’t combined
  • High monthly fee for number of pages included

Conclusion

eFax has a good online fax service with the most subscribers of any rival, but its pricing is on the high end. Compared to our Market Standard of $10 per month for 300 free combined pages, eFax Plus is a bit more expensive at $18.99 per month for 170 incoming and 170 outgoing pages. However, eFax does offer the most features of any online fax service including e-signing, iOS and Android mobile apps, international faxing capability and 24/7 phone support. Also, eFax added a large file sharing option that allows users to upload large files (up to 3GB) and send the link to up to 20 email addresses, where recipients can download the files. For users needing these features, eFax is worth the higher price tag.

Pros

  • Save 20% when you prepay annually
  • Prorated refunds available for annual plans cancelled early
  • 30-day free trial period
  • 500 combined pages included
  • Low monthly fee for number of pages included
  • One year online fax storage
  • Can preview your fax before you send it
  • High quality customer support
  • Low overage rates

Cons

  • Can only send faxes from one email address
  • No mobile app

Conclusion

Nextiva’s virtual fax product is an incredible value for those willing to pay annually to benefit from the industry low effective monthly rate of $7.95 ($95.40 per year) for 500 monthly sent or received pages. This pricing is pretty compelling considering that they also offer prorated refunds for annual plans cancelled early. The company has also added four additional servers to ensure that the service experiences minimal outages. Nextiva’s customer support was both knowledgeable and responsive. The biggest drawbacks for Nextiva are a lack of free trial and smartphone apps, though you can send and receive faxes with your smartphone’s browser and email.

  • HIPAA compliant

Cons

Conclusion

SRFax is a very good option for businesses who need HIPAA compliance and value quality customer service. They are also one of the few companies willing to sign a Business Associate Agreement for professionals that need to address privacy concerns. At $16.05 per month for 500 free incoming and outgoing pages, SRFax is a great value from a price perspective. SRFax has knowledgeable customer support, but no longer offers a free trial.

Conclusion

MetroFax is an excellent digital fax service and most of the feedback we have received rates it as 5 out of 5 stars. You get 550 combined pages for $11.95 per month, which is a comparable value compared to our Market Standard of 300 combined pages for $9.99 per month.
You may also prepay for a year to bring the rate down even more. MetroFax’s customer support was very knowledgeable and swift to answer questions. MetroFax offers a 3-day free fax trial.

  • Unlimited online fax storage
  • Can preview your fax before you send it
  • Can create a “blocked”/ “allowed” call list so that you aren’t charged for blocked calls
  • 24/7 customer support

Cons

  • Shorter trial duration
  • Pages in plan aren’t combined
  • Experienced multiple power outages in June 2011, Jan 2012, April 2012, and January 2013
  • Experienced customer login issues in June 2011

Conclusion

MyFax has a user-friendly online interface and competitive pricing. At $12 per month for 100 incoming and 100 outgoing pages, MyFax is not a great option for those who fax regularly. MetroFax offers basically the same service at a slightly lower price and includes 550 combined send/receive pages per month. Prepaying for a year will bring the monthly rate down further to $10.00, which is still slightly higher than MetroFax annual pricing. MyFax has a 3-day free online fax trial period to test out the service.

  • 1,000 combined pages included
  • Low monthly fee for number of pages included
  • Can send faxes from an unlimited number of email addresses and receive faxes at 6 email addresses

Cons

  • Hidden Fee: Charges five cents per fax per month to
store faxes online after 30 days
  • No phone customer support
  • Poor quality customer support

Conclusion

RapidFAX’s special offer of 1,000 pages/ month for $9.95 to FaxCompare customers makes it a very attractive plan for people needing more then 500 pages per month, but the feedback we have received from users of the product has been very negative. Many users have complained about lost faxes as well as being billed after canceling. RapidFAX has a hidden fee that charges you for storing faxes online for more than 30 days. Phone customers support is technically not available. However, it has been our experience that if you call the sales number on the website, the person answering the phone will attempt to answer technical questions. Unfortunately, customer support didn’t answer all of our test questions correctly. RapidFAX offers a 30-day free internet fax trial of its service.

Cons

  • Charges $1 monthly maintenance fee to store faxes online

Conclusion

Faxaway’s fax service is very limiting in that the only area code available for fax numbers is Seattle (area code 206). You must pay a $10 starting balance before being able to use the service, and Faxaway charges $1 per month to store faxes online. With Faxaway, you must send and receive faxes from your email. Faxaway is best suited for people who only fax a few pages per month and want to forego a monthly fee. HelloFax is a good option for people who need a local fax number. HelloFax’s main differentiator from other online fax services is that you can sign documents electronically, without using a printer or scanner. At $9.99 per month for 300 free incoming and outgoing pages, HelloFax meets our market standard, but it is more expensive than much of it’s competition. HelloFax has great email customer support but doesn’t offer phone support. HelloFax offers a 30-day free trial.
