SmartFax Conclusion
SmartFax's plan is a good value. For $6.95/ month, you get 250 combined pages, lower than average overage rates and the option of a toll free number for no additional cost. Our experience with their customer support was that they were helpful. SmartFax offers a 30-day free trial, which includes 250 combined pages.
SmartFax's monthly fee is $6.95 with no start-up fee. Incoming and outgoing fax pages are combined in their plan, but they only allot 250 free pages per month, which is less than the Market Standard of 300 combined pages. SmartFax also has a free trial period of 30 days.
Faxing with SmartFax is very simple. There is one page where you enter the fax number, attach documents and fill out the cover page. The number of documents you can send through SmartFax is five and the maximum number of recipients for your sent faxes is one. They do not offer a preview of a fax before you send. Online fax storage is free for 30 days until they start charging you to store your faxes, as mentioned above. This meets the market standard of 30 days of free fax storage, but the five cents per fax per month is a higher cost than the Market Standard. You can also send faxes from an unlimited number of email addresses but you can only have two email addresses that receive faxes.
SmartFax only offers local numbers in 25 states, plus 40 cities in Canada. They also offer (855), (866), (877), and (888) toll-free numbers for no extra fee. SmartFax's phone support hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST Monday through Friday. They have above average phone support quality, but you may have to be transferred to a higher-up representative for difficult questions.
